Triathlon Ontario is the provincial governing body that provide leadership and governance to develop a safe and fair environment for multisport in Ontario.

Triathlon Canada’s mission is to provide excellence in leadership, structure and education for the growth and development of the sport. Triathlon Canada is dedicated to the principles of enabling every Canadian to participate in Duathlon and Triathlon throughout their lifetime, for fun, fitness and/or achievement.  Read more at

On the elite level, Triathlon Canada is responsible for the selection of National Team members to represent Canada in international competition, including the World Championships, Pan American Games, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games. Triathlon Canada creates all selection criteria as it relates to its High Performance Athletes. Triathlon Canada conducts National Camps and clinics and provides coaching education programs and Coaching Certification opportunities across the country.

On the developmental level, Triathlon Canada fosters grass-roots expansion of the sport, which is facilitated by the sanctioning of age-group events and its Kid of Steel Program. National Championships are held for triathletes from junior to senior age divisions from coast to coast. 

The International Triathlon Union (ITU) is the world governing body for the sport of Triathlon and its related other Multisports. It is an association founded in April 1989 in Avignon, France and existing under art. 60 and following the Swiss Civil Code. The seat of ITU is in Switzerland and its headquarters shall be decided by the Executive Board. ITU is a non-profit-making organisation and does not pursue any objective for its own gains.

The Mission of ITU is to promote the sport of Triathlon, Paratriathlon and its related Multisports and disciplines throughout the world, and to lead the sport of Triathlon, as recognised by the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee.

The Ironman Company, was formed 2 decades ago to manage long distance, privately owned triathlons. The company has been sold several times and is now owned by the Wanda Group of China. This includes all Ironman races including the Kona World Iroman Championship, 70.3 Ironman Races, and a number of other smaller events around the world. These are non-drafting races. The World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) is a for-profit corporation, owned by Dalian Wanda Group, that organizes, promotes and licenses the Ironman Triathlon, Ironman 70.3, the 5150 series of triathlon races and several cycling, running and multisports events.
